On 4 December 2018 István Hegedűs gave an interview to Klubrádió about the reactions of the actors of the European political sphere to the news on the forced move of the Central European University to Vienna. According to him there is a huge tension inside the centre-right European political family because of Viktor Orbán's political line: although the exclusion of Fidesz is not unimaginable before the European elections, this is still the least likely scenario.

István Hegedűs gave an interview to "The Newsmakers" program of the Turkish television TRT World about the attacks against the Central European University and its Founder on 12 December 2018.
On 29 November 2012, István Hegedűs commented on the blog post by Neelie Kroes, member of the European Commission on the situation of the media in Hungary, in which she strongly criticised the media policy of the Hungarian government and the activities of the Media Council.
